Grignard Reagents
07 October 2009
Pentagon's purpose built Grignard plant at Workington offers advanced capability in the manufacture of reagents and their downstream derivatives. In addition to a wide range of own products in standard solvents and concentrations we offer custom manufacture of downstream products utilising more concentrated solutions than could be commercially shipped.
The Grignard plant in Workington has the following technology available:
* 4 – 4.5m3 GL and SS vessels
* Fully DCS controlled Temperature -15°C to 150°C
* Distillation unit with 26 theoretical plates
* Hastelloy filter dryer
* Bulk and drums

Palladium Catalysts for Alpha-arylation
06 October 2009
Johnson Matthey has recently identified:
(DtBPF) PdCl2 Pd-118
(DtBPF) PdBr2 Pd-128
as exceptional candidates for alpha-arylation of
various ketones with a variety of aryl
chlorides and aryl bromides.
These catalysts:
-are commercially available from JM
-give excellent yield and selectivity
-are air stable
-perform with mild reaction conditions
-demonstrate minimal Pd leaching

Organozinc Halides
BASF is sponsoring an on-line seminar on organozinc reagents that
can help pharmaceutical and chemical research chemists bring new
products to market. The Web-based discussion is scheduled for
October 27, and will be available at two different time slots to
accommodate participants from North America, Europe and Asia.
Organozinc compounds are selective reagents and represent a powerful
tool for carbon-carbon bond forming reactions. Over the last
decades, organozinc reagents have been widely used in the total
synthesis of natural products, in medicinal chemistry as well as in
asymmetric synthesis and catalysis. This presentation will cover
recent developments of the Negishi cross coupling technology and
applications of this novel transformation on scale.
The seminar "Organozinc Halides in Organic Synthesis" will be
presented by Dr. Andreas Leitner, Senior Research Scientist,
Inorganics for BASF in North America at two live sessions:
* The first session begins at 5 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT)
or 10 a.m. Central European Time (CET), 2:30 p.m. in India,
and 6 p.m. in Japan and Korea
* The second session begins at 2 p.m. EDT, or 11 a.m. Pacific Time
Registration for both sessions is available at
